Best Modest Swimsuits for Summer 2020
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – summer is my favorite season.
I live in Southeast Texas where summers are oppressively hot, humid, and sticky, and I love it.
And for those of you that know me in real life, you may think I’m being sarcastic.
I’m not.
I seriously love Texas summers.
One of my favorite feelings in the whole world is walking out of a store where the a/c is blasting and going into the heat and sunshine of summer when it’s so hot that the air feels thick.
Sigh.
But there is one thing about summer that I don’t like – swimsuit shopping.
It’s just such a pain.
The whole hoopla of getting to the store with 4 kids in tow or finding someone to keep 4 kids while I go alone is exhausting.
Once there, I have to walk around the swimsuit section and try to guess which tiny pieces of fabric are going to look good on me.
Once I pick some scraps, I have to decide what size to try on because bathing suit sizes are not the same as real clothes sizes.
Trying them all on is a hassle, and heaven forbid you grab the wrong size because you have to get completely redressed to go out and grab another size.
All of this to spend $50+ on something you don’t really love.
Blurgh.
So last year, I tried a new thing, and I loved it.
I ordered 7 bathing suits from Amazon, tried them all on at home, and sent back the five that I didn’t like.
It was AMAZING.
I shopped for the suits in my pajamas in bed, they arrived at my house without me ever leaving, I tried them on in my own bedroom after my kids were asleep, and I put the ones I didn’t like back in the package they came in and the mailman came and picked them up for free.
So much better than shopping in a real store.
But how do you know which bathing suit to get?
Because when you look on Amazon for “bathing suits for women,” over 70,000 results come up.
That’s enough to send anybody out of their house to choose one at the store instead of spending hours combing through results written by non-native speakers.
So we’ve done the hard work for you.
Here are six of the best modest swimsuits on Amazon.
If you don’t already have a Prime account, use our link below to try it for 30 days for FREE.
That’s long enough to order the suits, try them on, and send them back.
1. Best One Piece
This retro-styled one piece is awesome.
I ordered in the cherry print last summer and get compliments every time I wear it.
This swimsuit also comes in several cute polka dot patterns and a cherry pattern with a black background.
It has molded cups for support and a halter tie top for a great custom fit.
The part of the suit that goes over your torso is actually two connected pieces. The top piece has a little extra fabric and ruching so that the suit is not tight on the torso. But it is sewn in completely so it doesn’t ever separate or float up in the water.
Honestly, it’s a pretty perfect design and I don’t know why all one piece bathing suits aren’t designed like that.
The bottom offers full coverage so you don’t have to worry about wedgies when getting out of the pool.
As with most bathing suits, the sizing tends to run a little small, so I suggest ordering at least one size up. (You can always exchange it if it doesn’t fit!)
It’s comfortable and cute.
What more could you want it a modest bathing suit??
2. Best Tankini – Boy Shorts
This tankini features boy shorts and a very loose flouncy top making it the perfect swimsuit for moms.
I love all four of my kids, but I don’t love what they did to my stomach.
This suit covers all that up with a fun polka dot pattern and ruffles.
It also comes in several solid colors and a cute red and white pattern.
The boy shorts offer full coverage for a more modest look because if you’ve ever chased a toddler while wearing a bathing suit, you know how important full rear coverage is.
The top has molded cups for support and adjustable straps. The straps can be worn straight back or crisscrossed.
This suit is the bee’s knees for moms.
3. Best Tankini – Skirt
This skirted bathing suit is great for several reasons.
First, the design of the top is very slimming. It has a print in an hourglass shape with black sides that is flattering for any figure.
Second, the skirt is long enough to offer full coverage and has high elasticity for tummy control.
Because what mom doesn’t want tummy control?
Third, the skirt HAS POCKETS!
Now if you read my post, The Best Dresses for Church Under $30, you know how much I love pockets.
And why shouldn’t your bathing suit have pockets??
I’m forever looking for a place to stick my cash or keys or random things my kids hand me while we’re at the pool.
3. Best Mommy & Me
My Mimi used to buy my little sister and me matching outfits and one of us really liked it. (Hint: it was me!)
So these matching Mommy and Me bathing suits are right up my ally.
It’s really important to me to teach my girls modesty so I love that this set comes with two once piece suits.
There are also 5 different patterns to choose from on Amazon so if flamingos aren’t your jam, there are other modest swimsuits to choose from.
4. Best Two Piece
If you’re at a point in your life where you’ve learned to love your post-baby body and don’t mind showing a little bit of skin, this is the perfect two-piece bathing suit.
It covers up the part of your stomach where stretch marks are the worst and accents the narrowest part of your waist.
And if you didn’t get stretch marks during your pregnancy, please share what sort of miracle cream you used.
I used every cream I could find and it still looks like I was attacked by a wild animal.
Rant over.
The flouncy top is flattering for all bust sizes and has removable padding.
This swimsuit comes in nine different prints so you’re sure to find one you love.
5. Best Retro
This modest swimsuit is so comfortable!
It is fitted on the bust with a removable cups and a supportive shelf bra.
Then it flares out to hide any muffin top.
The bottoms are high-waisted so that even if your top floats up in the pool, your love handles are hidden.
I also love all the mixed pattern options, so be sure to click the image above to see all 14 options.
6. Best Swim Dress
This swim dress is super cute and probably the most modest swimsuit on the list.
Honestly, it looks more like a sundress than a swimsuit.
It’s great if you’re one of those moms who doesn’t actually like getting in the water but recognizes you may have to dive in after a child so wearing a bathing suit is really best. (Hey twin!)
It comes in 15 different patterns so be sure to click the link above if you’re not loving the blue floral print.
It has wide shoulder straps for support, removable padding, and undershorts.
It’s the ultimate in full coverage and comfort.
In conclusion, finding a modest swimsuit doesn’t have to be terrible.
You can take advantage of Amazon’s free 2-day shipping and free return policy to have a comfortable relaxing bathing suit shopping experience.
Add to that, all but one of these suits is under $30, and you’ve got some money to spare this summer!
You could get a fun new beach bag, beach hat, or cover up.
